Ceramic Coaster – Shami Tiles

Influenced by patterns of old floor tiles and Middle Eastern structures, Shireen designs her unique pieces using ceramics. Each design brings back a dear memory or simply tells a narrative of Palestine.

This piece was inspired by the “Shami tiles” patterns, which are more than 130 years old and were present in the guest-rooms tiles. The colored tiles were introduced to the region by the French and the German artists. Unfortunately nowadays there is only one factory in Nablus that continues the production of these tiles with limited editions.
